Gregory "Artman
Greg" Huff was born in Northern NJ. As a
child his hands always found something creative to do. He would
write dramas that he performed for his family using his sister's
dolls as actors, or draw pictures to illustrate a story, or make
up songs on the piano. He would often create miniature world's
fairs (below) and amusement park rides from Tinker-toys and string,
filling up a spare room in his home.

Gregory's talent was acknowledged at an early age when he won first prize in a school science fair for his creative display of the solar system. He also attended children's art workshops offered by the Newark Museum in Newark, NJ. The museum selected one of his wire sculptures for display in their children's art exhibition that year (below).

He graduated from high school in 1988 with a special honorable
mention award for art. He went on to exhibit several works as a
student at the School of Visual Arts in NY. At the Richard
Stockton College of New Jersey he earned a Bachelor of Arts
degree, exhibiting works and graduating with high honors.
Over the years he has utilized a variety of media in his work,
including oils, watercolor, collage, photography, and most
recently loom knitting, but scratchboard remains one of his favorite mediums. "I love the way
scratchboard emphasizes the dramatic contrasts between black and
white. Working with scratchboard gives me a connection to my art
that I don't always get with other mediums. I like making art
that is thought-provoking and interesting to look at."

"To me, using scratchboard is almost like sculpting. As I remove the black India ink from the board, I feel as though I am carving and shaping an image out of darkness into the light. Something I read in Robert Henri's The Art Spirit has always stuck with me: "Draw the mood of a thing, not simply a copy of the thing itself." In my art, I seek to capture the mood of a subject through the dramatic contrast of black and white. The scratchboard artwork on this website represents this philosophy of art."
Gregory resides with his wife and daughter in central New Jersey. He and his wife, who is also gifted in creativity, have been happily married almost 10 years. In addition to creating art, he enjoys reading, biking, loom knitting, antiquing, listening to classical music, and inspiring others in their creativity via his website, www.CreativeHelps.com.
